I woke up early on the weekend and drove to Connecticut to meet with Andrew and pick up my package of bees. He has multiple hives and a big bear eating honey statue on his front yard. His neighbors must know he's a beekeeper! No need to hide it like we have to in NYC.
The packet of bees is a bit larger than a shoe box and holds the queen in a separate box within along with a can of sugar syrup to keep the bees feed during their trip from Georgia. I installed them in about an hour and only put in one deep to the beehouse so they wouldn't feel stressed about filling out all the space with honey at the onset. I want them to be comfy in their new home!
